A Primer on New Jersey Site Remediation

How did the Site Remediation Reform Act (SRRA) transform New Jersey’s environmental remediation process?

  • Established the affirmative obligation for responsible parties to remediate contaminated sites in a timely manner
  • Created the Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board (SRPLB) which issues licenses to qualified individuals, referred to as Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP)
  • Transitioned daily case management from New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) to LSRP
  • Required that the LSRP comply with applicable statutes and rules and assess guidance when selecting remediation options
